About Me

Creative Beginnings Workshop

Katie Wilt-Sanders

Owner, Instructor

I was nine when I first sat at a sewing machine, eager to start my first project—a black knit pencil skirt and a striped white shirt. Soon after, I made bright blue pants, and from there, my sewing journey took off.

It all began when a family friend made dresses for my mom and me for a wedding. Watching her work sparked something in me. My mom enrolled me in a children’s summer sewing camp, and I ended up attending that sewing school for 18 years. It became like a second home, where I learned advanced techniques and eventually taught beginner classes before moving out of state.

Years later, my passion for teaching was reignited by my daughter and niece. I taught my daughter virtually and helped my niece start her sewing journey when she got her first machine. Sharing those moments reminded me how much I love teaching—especially kids and teens. Watching them complete a project and beam with pride is incredibly fulfilling.

Sewing is more than a hobby—it’s my passion, my peace, and my confidence. Now, I want to pass that joy on to today’s youth, helping them discover creativity, confidence, and the satisfaction of making something by hand.
